| From the President...
Has everyone recovered from the holidays? I hope so, because the chapter is gearing up to get busy.
The board had its retreat on Tuesday, January 15th and made a few changes to the calendar of events. We have discussed dropping some projects, adding others, and keeping some of the "old stand-bys".
First off, the board has decided to try meeting only once a month an hour before the general membership meeting to free up another night for those of us who have other commitments. If this entices anyone to step forward to fill any of the open board positions, let me know. We also decided to try going out where the younger adults of Falls City "hang out." Hopefully this would show them that the Jaycees are a group of individuals who like to have fun and not just work.
Our current membership is around 64 members with at least five of the "most active" aging out within the next two to three years. If we don't go out and try to sign new members and get them involved, the Jaycees in Falls City will not exist any more. I really don't want that to happen and I'm sure you don't either. If you know anyone who fits into the 21-40 age group and don't feel comfortable asking them to join, let myself or any of the other board members know who they are and we'll go talk to them.
The basketball league is off and running well, I hear. Ann said there are around 148 kids taking part in this project. If our chapter folds, who is going to be around to run this or any of the other youth events we sponsor for these children. Thanks goes to Ann and Steve Severin and Mike Stoller for once again heading up this project and doing a great job with it.
At the time of this writing, the DSA banquet is still in the planning stages. Nomination letters were few and far between, but those getting nominated are very worthy of their nominations. Thank you goes out to Tracy Brantner and all of her helpers for what I'm sure will turn out to be another successful event.
I want to close this month with a thought I read on a calendar I have. If you think about it, it can be applied not only to your personal life, but our Jaycee chapter as well. Mike Ditka is quoted as saying "You are never a loser until you quit trying." Let's not quit trying Falls City Jaycees.
In Jaycees,
